I’m starting OVER!!!
“Five of Cups” Acrylic and collage on canvas, 30x40 inches, 2022
About the Five of Cups
The Five of Cups is what I call “Tarot for depression.” I pull this card so often, I had to make a painting out of it. But there are more positive meanings to it as well that I usually miss. The imagery on this card often shows at least two of the cups standing upright, completely full, suggesting that we are missing the good or positive things in our lives in while we are grieving something we’ve lost forever. How many cups can you find in this painting?
“The Old You (is still you)” upcycled cigar box
“The Old You (Is Still You)”
This box is about 3:00 AM anxiety. You know the kind. It’s when you wake up for no reason and stay awake going over all your old mistakes and things that don’t even matter much anymore. For some reason, trying to sleep makes every little hurt or disappointment in your entire life, super important? Why is that do you think?
“The Old Neighborhood” 16x24, acrylic and collage on wood
“The Old Neighborhood”
My family moved around A LOT while I was growing up. Neither of my parents were in the military, and many of our moves were inside a few mile-radius. As falling away Catholics in LDS-dominated Salt Lake City, Utah, we were pretty much outcasts everywhere we went. This painting is about one of my old neighborhoods, but it can apply to many of them.
